Gravatar I had a post too, but it was on the weekend when my blog was down, so no one saw it. Still, I love all of these posts with maps in them.

I love topo maps! When I was traveling to Scotland a lot, I bought topo maps for every place I stayed. Every rock, hill, outcropping, and burn has a name. Amazing!

Gravatar Luckily you haven't seen any quails today.
Peace
E

It Takes a village which appears that it's full of idiots.

Gravatar Neat! You really are surrounded by water.

Gooooooooeyducks?

Gravatar have you played with Google Earth yet? hubby's got it on his computer - just flew through the Grand Canyon.

Gravatar Really does look like a case of 'water, water everywhere'! No wonder you can get to the shore so quickly.

BTW feel free to call me Karen instead of Rurality if you like. (I went with Rurality after seeing so many other Karens in blog comments.)

Gravatar pablo--i dreamt that you did a watershed post.

C. Corax--wow. thanks. i too love maps.

whisker--the quails couldn't do worse at running the country than the administration idiots.

FloridaCracker--i have read that the largest biomass in puget sound is gooey ducks. some millions of pounds are harvested every year, bringing in a bucket of revenue to the state. most go to japan. they live at least 3 feet down and one would feed me for a week. no thanks. maybe once.

soccer mom--yes. impressive. but i want the fine resolution for my neighborhood

Gravatar Rurality--karen it is.

Gravatar I saw Pablo's post. It had what struck me about the Bums' place - a very interesting set of contours that describes lots of ups and downs.

Peninsula Paradise, it looks like. Chimicum Creek looks quite wide there at the mouth. I can see how it gets a little salty inland at high tide. And although I knew the Washington/Oregon coast can be pretty ragged looking, I didn't know you had all those islands and fellow Paradises around.

You are right there in the brunt of easterly storms from the Pacific.

So - a question - are the little square dots residences?

Gravatar You inspired me to find a topological map for my neighborhood. Found it at topozone. Very cool.

Gravatar Wayne--the creek is about ten feet wide and maybe a foot deep at low tide. the white area represents the tidal estuary. the square dots are buildings. the map is at least 25 years old.

we are in the rainshadow of the olympic mountains, so storms are attenuated when they hit us.

KathyR--try something called
terraserver

Gravatar I took a look at that terraserver link and it is great! How interesting. It has an aerial photo of where I live. How cool is that? It's from 1995. There has been a lot of changes since then.

Gravatar I'm relieved to hear it's ok to call Rurality Karen. I've done so but always felt a little bit indiscreet.
