Gravatar The green, flying insect is a Tiger Beetle. Offhand, I don't know the species, but I'll take a look at my Tiger Beetle field guide tomorrow to see if I can find a match. Nice movie clip of the heron. What a neat little lizard! I wonder what species it might be?

Gravatar My initial thought on the beetle was that it was a tiger beetle also. I've never seen one like that, but it certainly has the look of one. Very handsome.

I suppose when I see a little green flying hymenopteran I always think halictid, or sweat bees. Maybe a green metallic bee?

The lizard looks like a skink, perhaps related to ground skink, Scincella lateralis. The correspondence to that one isn't perfect, but there seem to be few that have the spotted pattern on the back that yours does. Another handsome critter!

A superior substitute for any lying presentation by the idiot in chief.

And all the best to roger, of course.

Gravatar Has anyone suggested that the lizard in that picture looks fake? Cuz when I post them, the scoffers come in droves.

Gravatar Ah, yes, the smirk. At least if he's talking to the camera, we don't have to watch the swagger, too. Are there really people in this country that respond positively to that stuff?

Gravatar i lived on the coast for many years and those photos of the lifting fog really made me miss it.

thanks

Gravatar I had a quick look for your lizard on the Washington State Herp Atlas. It seems to be the Northern Alligator Lizard. There are more photos of this species here. Btw, "alligator" seems like an amusing name for these considering their size!

Gravatar So many beautiful photos from you recently. I hope they continue.

I busied myself elsewhere today, too. No time for his foolishness or feeling worse than I already feel.

Gravatar Yes, me again! Just checked A Field Guide to the Tiger Beetles of the United States and Canada (Pearson, Knisley & Kazilek) and I'm fairly certain that yours is a subspecies of the Oblique-lined Tiger Beetle - most probably Cicindela tranquebarica vibex (the "oblique" in the common name referring to the long slanted front maculation). The guide states that this species is found on the Pacific at lower elevations in the Cascades, on habitat such as sea beaches, mud flats along lakes, ponds, streams and irrigated pastures. Specimens west of the Cascades are green, while those east are brown to dark green. Range is from western B.C. to California. There don't seem to be any photos of these online (not too surprisingly as there are so many species of Tiger Beetle). Hope I find some when I'm out west in October, although I might be too late for the season.

Gravatar I didn't watch him. Since I can't believe a word that comes out of his mouth, I believe that it would be a complete waste of my time, and it would do bad things to my blood pressure.

Great tiger beetle. This group is a recent passion of mine. Yours is Cicindela tranquebarica vibex, the oblique-lined tiger beetle. The subspecies vibex is found in the lower Cascades and along the Pacific coast. My guide says that populations west of the Cascades are more likely to be green. So yours obviously read the guidebook. I'll be posting a picture of a species from the Sierras soon.

Gravatar Ha- I see that Bev beat me to the ID by a whole minute!

Gravatar Here's wishing all health to you both, and you were wise to skip that mess last night. Taking pics had to be much more interesting. Love the little critters. My late flowers are full of bees.

I watched, and I was left wondering if Bushco actually lives in his fantastic fantasy all the time, or if the delusions are only brought up when he needs to make a speech.

He usta make ok speeches, yeah they were dripping with good-ol'-boy like a piece of bacon drips grease, but he memorized them and presented them. The one last night he was noticeably reading, and in a monotone too. I just could not believe the lies that dribbled out.

Gravatar Well I'm with you. I have hypertension myself (controlled by meds) and looking at the smirking chimp on TV is the last thing I need to be doing.

I'm taking today off and heading to CT. Maybe I'll get some wildlife photos of my own.

Gravatar Can't believe I get to say it:

Shoveling compost is not unlike what you would have been watching had you chosen to watch Zippy the President's speech.

Good luck to Roger.

Gravatar I didn't watch either. Nooooo thanks! Smirking and vacuous -- that about sums him up.

Love your beautiful photos and I must say that of all the people I communicate with on the Internet, Roger would have gotten LEAST likely to have an uptight heart so work on that relaxation, dude! Wishing you the BEST!

Gravatar i have been walking away from t.v. a lot lately. not coincidentally, i too have hypertension. avoiding the things that enrage me is better for my health. that's hard to do, with that chump in office. (i won't call him zippy, because i am a zippy fan, and bill griffin would be insulted!! j/k!!)i have been wondering if the incidences of hypertension have risen considerably, since he took control.
...sigh.

most relaxing images~thanks for that!

Gravatar griffin=griffith. ack!

Gravatar we did not watch either! I have a small green bug too and figured it was a type of tiger beatle. The small herp is a juv alligator lizard, or so I have been told in the past. though I am not totally confinced as I have had the adults here and one the oregon coast and they have claws. it you look at the juv it has sticky like fingers. more frog like. but no one believes me....

take care of Rogers heart Robin, sooth it daily!

rainy here this morning

Gravatar Then there's me: I forgot it was on.

Wouldn't have tuned on even if I had remembered, though. I'd rather read blogs like this one if I want to know what's going on in the world.

Gravatar Beautiful photos and good you are following up on the heart thing and keeping us informed. I have known a lot of people who caught something early and it saved their lives.

I couldn't bring myself to watch him given I knew what he would say, didn't trust anything. It's take willpower to not post a blog on it today but I know we can't just be negative-- still... It's such a hurtful time to know that 30% of Americans are still supporting him and it's why he can get away with this morass of lies and false reasons. None of us know if there was a real reason behind what they did or it's all stupid mistakes and huge ego...

Golly, I nearly did write a blog *s*

Gravatar I was at work with my radio on; very seldom does it switch off of NPR...you made the right call!

Fingers crossed for good news next Thursday; I'll be thinking of you two of you!

alan

Gravatar i fogot it was on, too, and can't bear to watch the man, anyway.

more great photos! best to roger.

Gravatar i didn't watch. seems like if you've seen/heard one GWB speech, you've seen and heard them all.

best to roger.

Gravatar The sound of the foghorn brought tears to my eyes with sudden, bittersweet memories of silent, foggy coastal mornings, long ago. Thank you.

Gravatar Love seeing your heron video and your salamander or lizard, whatever it is! Also those are some amazing shots of the beach! WOW

Gravatar Have a great weekend!
roger's heart not resting? it probably just doesn't want to miss a moment with it's companion heart.

Gravatar While the past few years seemed to have zipped by otherwise, it's hard to believe seven have passed since the Florida debacle put him in office. I watched the 2000 debates and found it hard to believe anyone trusted this man; apparently many did back then and again in April 2003. Scary stuff.

Love the photos and best wishes to Roger! K.

Gravatar I watched part of his speech and then became ill. It might have been the rich dinner I ate or it might have been the bs he spit all over my tv screen.

Gravatar I couldn't watch- which is sad because, in theory, I think we SHOULD be watching and listening to the "leader." (Or would that be "the decider"? I On the other hand, I could watch your inconsequential videos night and day. Hope Roger does well with intervention- keeping my fingers crossed and all that jazz.

Gravatar Thank you very much for your visit and your kind words. I see your husband has something to deal with also. Mr. Sumo had a tumor removed from his bladder and we don't know what the pathology is yet...but the chances are it is good so far. I hope the same for you...

Gravatar In the harbor in Port Townsend we saw a yacht named "Diastole". Think it's your cardiologist's?

Gravatar Good choices, Robin!
