Yeah, that 'bout sums it up! That could be me sitting on the rock there.
You were just dealing with 100 degree weather, but those folks look like they're wearing warm coats?

Great shot. That is usually me looking the wrong way. Hopefully they were seeing something equally cool.

That's me...looking in one direction while the action is in the other. Great photo.

Haha! Great photo!
It's a shame about the noise, the crowds, the dead sea lions, and that ugly brown band of smog, though. We considered moving to Santa Cruz (from SoCal) in the late '80s, but for better or worse were dissuaded by the Loma Prieta earthquake. We therefore went west (2300 miles' worth), and so far, it's all still good: air and water remain amazingly clean; our small communities remain serenely liveable; and our abundant sea and land critters remain healthy.
No telling how long this idyll will last, of course, but given our ages (same as yours), our comparatively frugal vegan existence of the past 40 years, our ever-decreasing reliance on external food and energy sources (not difficult to pull off here), and our informed assessment of global entropy, we figure we can hang on for at least a decade. After that, AMF!
Perhaps you might give a westerly move some thought?

I agree with the first comment, "life is full of serendipitous happenings". Live the moment.

Now I see!
It's a dolphin! When I looked before I thought it was a grey whale spouting the way they do in my recurring dream of whales.

Isn't that just how it goes... something always going on when you're looking the other way.
