I do hope July is much kinder to you robin. Your feelings have been battered enough.
You really have a good trigger finger on the camera. He was heading right for you, it appears, with not good intent.

I do so hold wonderful thoughts for you and a kinder, lovelier month. My heart has ached for you and the pain I know you have felt. This is such a terrific shot! I love being able to almost feel the movement of his wings! Magnificent!

Being a bit older doesn't get easier. I KNOW for me, all my aunt's, uncle's are gone, parents are gone, ALL that generation... and I miss all of them. NOW I see "kids" my own age falling ill, or just getting old. I realize WE are the next group to experience this part of life. It is not easy, but then it's not something to shirk. I believe THAT approach makes aging simply more difficult than it should be. I WISH YOU BOTH a bit of reprieve this month! NOTE: I just saw a rufus male at the window....MOST are gone, so this is one migrating through from northern climes....I'll send him your way.

I am sad that your lives have been so full of loss. Somehow we manage to live through these bad times and often come out stronger than we were before (to paraphrase Hemingway, who unfortunately did not). Melanoma is a very scary diagnosis--I know from personal experience (35 years ago)!
I hope things take a happier turn!

That's an amazing photo! His wings look so long compared to his body. The bill is dead center on the camera. The photo looks Hitchcockish, but the poor bird is probably thinking, "Oh, no! A predator dead ahead! If I don't swerve NOW, I'm dead!"
I'm glad June is behind you. Soon, I'm sure, you'll have a bit of land where you can plant a garden to reflect the beauty of those you've lost.

Thinking of you and Roger.
Hoping July 2nd is as beautiful in Santa Cruz as it is here in coastal Northwest Washington. The sky is as blue as can be today. There is a light breeze. The dry air is fragrant.
When I first saw that bird headed in our direction, I thought it was a red parrot. Mysterious. Could well be some birds' mother or father in full protection mode.

loss, i know, is very, very hard. loss that comes roaring in like so many waves - no sense to be made of it, just walking thru one day at a time. rest.

when i first looked at this shot, it looked as if two disembodied arms were holding the bird out to you! Then, of course, when I embiggened, all was clarified. (like buttah....)
july has GOT to be better, right?

I thought of you in the Alentejo when I saw storks, falcons and eagles! Are you the photographer? What a remarkable photo you took!
Yes, bonjour July! Best wishes that it is a good month to you and everyone.
