I really don't see how orientation would be a problem for you. After all, you moved a greenhouse. And the house in that photo looks green too.

I hope it doesn't rain there much. If that house was here in the East, it would rot away in a few years. Does the roof of the original house actually slope right into the end wall of the addition? Also, it looks like there is lots of masonry in contact with wood. Watch out for termites.
The land sounds wonderful. Don't you wish you could start from scratch, or that it had an old house you wouldn't mind totally changing?
In this age of fossil fuel, silly concerns like shade, sunshine and distance seem quaint. It's good to see someone hasn't lost their instinct for such things.

Good luck with it. I hope if you get it, that it is the right place. Is it near where you are renting?

Best of luck. Our current house meets our needs in many ways but not in others. But, it was a house that called to us -- we looked at it many, many times before making an offer on it. It took a lot of work to get the deal to work but I'm glad we did. Is it my "forever" house? Nope. But, it's done a good job nurturing my family. Maybe that same luck will rub off for you guys . . . . not perfect but perfectly good!

I am so in agreement with you. we placed our house so it faced south so when the sun is out we get max exposure. I cant stand living in the shade. good luck!

It looks good from here. Maybe the neighbor would cut down some of the trees that block light from the older part of the house? Good luck.

In a way I envy you the excitement of the hunt but then there is the drudgery of the hunt that settles in after a while. Hope you aren't just wearing down.
Have you thought of just buying the perfect property and then building the perfect house? Kind of what Al says.
Good luck. Will be waiting to hear.

... his stock tips weren't very good, maybe he's better at real estate.

thanks for the encouragement. we made a formal offer to buy.
it is a bit larger than the greenhouse i moved. aha! bigger come-along!
Al Mollitor...the roof is a mishmash, but there are, bird's beaks?, i don't recall the right term....sloping parts added where the roofs meet with valleys so water drains. no sign of water damage inside.
taradharma...only one bid so far.
Rain...it is maybe 2 miles from our rental. convenient.
Liza Lee Miller..."not perfect but perfectly good!" and we will perfect it.
Dave...well, we were crazy before and this isn't sending us toward sanity. that may be a good thing.
KathyR...a folie a deux beats a menage a trois, maybe.
Dawn..our rental in the shade keeps us focussed on placement and exposure.

kenju.. we have considered that. we should meet him first.
vicki Bennett...thanks.
mandt...okay for light, but hard to get winter sunlight thru a skylight on the north facing slope.
am...thanks.
Arkansas Patti...we have looked at the available land. nothing grabs us like this place does.
FC...all right bear! give him a treat please.

You are definitely not crazy. Sometimes you just have to go with your instincts. Orientation is also very important to us. We are on a hill and our major living areas face the south-east. We are flooded with morning sunlight and I love it.
Good luck to you!

Too bad it doesn't quite face south -- if it did, I'll bet you wouldn't have hesitated. It's amazing that builders didn't even think about that in the past.

A home is for YOU and all you are...NO one or nothing else matters. THIS home is what calls to you........ and I'm thrilled you're hoping to win it over. Time to settle in for your winter calm. Just in time..... Timing in real estate is ALWAYS what happens, though, best of luck. And all those little animals that live on that 10 acres are hoping YOUR offer is accepted.

cervantes...the two story addition is on the southwest corner of the one story part. aaarrrggg! but then we could never afford it if it weren't an odd mix of mfgred and stickbuilt. love the 10 acres.
Mark H..thanks. we look forward to seeing critters. some are large. current owner has seen bears.

Ha ha. You've already moved one green house. Good one.
It looks BIG.
Interesting windows and arches. I like the part about being "utterly serene and peaceful". 10 acres sounds good. Enough to get lost in. Wonderfully lost. Good luck.

Jeez, I get distracted for a few days and when I look back at the blog, you've made an offer!
Can you alter the addition so it catches more sun? Take the deck off and add more glazing? I'm assuming that where this place is, it would be waaay too hot to have a lot of glazing on the southwest face of the addition.
