What if you are the only sane ones and everyone else is insane? Hang in there!

thanks for sparing us an anguishing photo! Yes, you see all from your perch, and some of it ain't pretty. And then I remember the whales and dolphins jumping in the bay!

Your ongoing words and images carry the truth of grief and loss as well as that of beauty. Thinking of you and Roger during this rough time. Sending love.

Why is it people go to beautiful places just to do the same crap they can do at home? I think of people that go camping but bring generators, radios, boom-boxes and TVs.
I thought Monterey Bay was a marine reserve and commercial fishing was prohibited.

I left Madrid to come to a spot in Portugal where only our little house exits, perched over the Atlantic ocean. It is very windy all the time, so people dont like to come. The place is called "Guincho" which translates as "screech", the wind voice. I love it, it is wild and and totally isolated. Books and music and the blue outside. Not an illusion here. Yet.

The trouble with finding a paradise, is that it isn't long before everyone else does also and ruins it. Making us part of the problem. Pretty sure we don't deserve this world. Viewing beauty should only be seen thru binoculars. As a people, most of us can't be trusted with the close up,hands on approach.

Unfortunately, it just confirms the conclusion that I came to many years ago -- too many humans on this earth. There could have been plenty of room for everyone, but things just don't seem to work that way, do they? It's hard when you're the kind of person who is able to step back and see the reality behind the illusion.

I have the same problem with tourist towns. They are lovely when nobody is there but it isn't often that nobody is there. My last trip through California beaches was disappointing to me as I saw a lot of what you describe. It seems to be okay right now in Oregon but if this climate shift continues to warm our oceans, we will be seeing what you are sooner than later. Incredibly sad but more than that with a dead sea, man won't be far behind!

I can feel the pain that you and Roger continue to feel, but also the frustration at what is happening to your environment -- all of our environment. It is heartbreaking! Hang on though, there is still beauty to be found and enjoyed and hopefully, saved!
My thoughts are with you.

I know what you mean about staring into beautiful illusions. I love the sight and the sound of the sea; hypnotic with relentless rhythm. And the stretch of endless blue seems to say that the world beyond is limitless too. Guess we have to remember that what is right in front of us is reality but not the entire reality.

After yet another 4th of July on the Mendo Coast, I know of what you speak.
And it is heartbreaking.

We have the same tourist frustration. Thank goodness our little community is isolated and insulated from the idiots. We do not leave our community during weekends. Fortunately, it is so beautiful here we don't really mind. The tourists will be around until "leaf season" is over in the fall. We'll be happy to see them go.

I could never have been able to make the point you make as poetically as you. You've done it quite powerfully..... It's ONE of the reasons we left California.....TOO crowded.....with humans.
