RAW is definitely the master of phrases that explode in majestic wonder - as in: some college-educated vacuum cleaner. Many could come up with the same phrases, but not in the constant stream as RAW did. Glad you got to see him in person.

Enjoyed reading the Krassner interview with RAW that you linked to. Provided several things to add to some other stuff I'm musing about today (if that makes any sense).

Thanks for the link to the interview. May Wilson's sense of humor live on. May there always be humor!
When I read Wilson's book, The Illuminati Papers, in the early 80s, I must have been extremely depressed because I don't have any recollection of Wilson's agile sense of humor. I do remember Philip K. Dick (mentioned by Wilson in the interview) and his extraordinarily strange and remarkable books, which I read during those same years.
From the interview, I especially liked Wilson's 22nd Law: "Certitude belongs exclusively to those who only look in one encyclopedia," and the part about his desired epitaph of "Wait, I'm not finished."
A man who helped me during a difficult period in my life has these words on his gravestone, "I TOLD you I was sick."
Also, I keep thinking about Tom Hanks, in the movie, "Castaway," yelling, "WILSON!!!!!!!"

RAW was the centerpoint of life mythology for my science fiction fannish cohort in the late 70's. It seemed that there was little about our lives that couldn't be summed up by a quote from the Illuminatus Trilogy.
I never met RAW. I met Bob Shea at the Atlanta WorldCon in the mid 80's. He was very much the opposite of Wilson. Tall, athletic, funny in a stern sort of way.
Thanks for the many mindfucks, Mr. Wilson. I will never look at the number 23 in the same way again.

A grave loss, yet somehow it seems "wrong" to be too downcast about Wilson's passing away.
I felt the same way when Tim Leary died - maybe it's my own weird way of looking at death.
Wilson' s passing, especially, begs NOT be be mourned with tears so much as an effort to carry on their legacies - explore, question, laugh, question, and laugh. And explore.
Then again, I didn't know him personally. I would have been gobsmacked even being in the same room.
p.s. I love the center photo wherein RAW is wearing a SubGenius shirt. I had the same one, but wore it down to shreds!
