May is National Bike Month! Bike-to-Work Week is May 16 - 20, 2005 and Bike-to-Work Day is Friday, May 20, 2005.
Get out and ride your bike. Get others to ride thier bike. Write letters to your newspapers. This is just a reminder.

I don't know anything about peak oil, I'm only posting here because it's the top one. I've bookmarked this blog and intend to read it all in the next few days but meanwhile I must ask,
do you at any point in the blog tackle the question that follows? (I hope you do because I live in a bike city and all my friends bike and they tell me to bike and even give me bikes on occasion, and one of them MADE me a bike, so it is very important that I answer this question because it causes me terrible psychological pain.) Here is the question:
How do you get over terror at the notion of even getting on a (nonstationary) bike? If you don't know how to exercise, how is it possible you know how to get up on one of these things and allow it to move around on the surface of the earth with you ON IT? And with bone-snappin' hard cement sidewalks and concrete roads under you? Not to mention puppies and toddlers you could wobble over and fall on and crush? And most terribly worst of all: other PEOPLE? People that might SEE YOU?
I hate the gym, too, and it for sure scares me but how could ANYTHING be scarier than a bike? Bikes are the scariest thing I know.
The bike my friend made me has just been sitting in my house since the Christmas before last and every time he comes over he sees it and he sighs sadly and shakes his head. It makes me feel terrible, but not as terrible as getting on a bike.
