I think your operational guys may be onto something as I see yet another convergence happening in the IT industry. This one is not a technical one but more on how we do our work. With new standards and frameworks such as ITILv3, ISO 27001, ISO 20000 and BS 25999 I think we will move from information security to information risk management. Information risk management will see groups within IT converge so that security will be built into the operational processes that we use to manage and support our environments. It may take a while but I can see this convergence of disciplines happening over time.

With regards to end point security I have to plug an Irish company Have a look at Beyond Encryption Technology www.beyondencryption.com. They offer a proactive way to manage data security on mobile endpoints so that you can take a proactive stance in preventing and managing the risk of data loss.
