Gravatar Karin, I've been told that people can be put in two categories when it comes to money... those who are generous and who give, and those who hoard and take for themselves. I would see you as a giver.

Thanks for stopping by and for giving insight from your experience. I appreciate it.

Gravatar Hi Robyn

For me your reference to "you can buy happiness after all when you spend money on others" is a (for me unknown till now) true lesson of live!

Karin H. (Keep It Simple Sweetheart, specially in business)

Gravatar Jackie, I have an idea the the most amazing heroes are the unsung heroes that ooze generosity in ways most people don't imagine.

I'm glad you had such a lovely time away in the sun!

Gravatar Hi Robyn - I am just catching up on this month's batch of WILFs and I loved this one. Brad's comment touched me too. I expect that there are many many people out there quietly doing good things. This is a timely reminder to honour them - whoever they are - and your post does just that!

Gravatar Karen, thanks... once I decided on this story, it began to write itself and it was a real pleasure to do. Don't you enjoy Robert's WILF challenges?

Gravatar Lillie, thanks. I really appreciate your generous, kind words.

Gravatar Robyn, this story warmed my heart too! What a wonderful memory. Thank you so much for touching my heart today with Uncle Earl's generosity.

Gravatar Robyn,
This is a heartwarming story and a great reminder that sometimes the most generous people don't flaunt their generosity but do their kindnesses quietly.

Gravatar Brad, Uncle Earl was a go-getter in many ways, but wasn't a person who tried to impress.

One thing I loved about this car - it held a lot and maintained it's zip.

Thanks for your comment!

Gravatar Thanks, Jim. I appreciate your visit.

Gravatar Joanna, as memories flooded back about him, I saw nuances I missed previously and that "warmed" me. Glad you captured that warmth, too.

I appreciate your thoughts on this one.

Gravatar Got to admit, Robert, that Uncle Earl was a true Bubba. In his 90's they honored him at Kiwanis. He was bantering back and forth with the best of them!

I didn't tie all these things together until I went to write this piece. His whole character came alive and sparked my creative juices. I enjoyed doing this one.

When my husband shared how Uncle Earl overlooked those bills, I was very impressed. That was never discussed openly or even referred to at his funeral. He had given gifts to the community of pretty large proportions as a member of Kiwanis, though.

Thanks for your tip of the hat!

Gravatar Robyn, isn't it amazing how the most generous people are the most quiet about it? A heartwarming lesson ... and the car brings back distant and very pleasant memories of my youth.

Gravatar Great story!

Gravatar Reading this story is making me feel warm too Robyn!

People have so much to teach us about how to live a good life, don't they?

Thanks for sharing this one.

Gravatar Wow, what a great example of a truly caring and generous individual! (I gotta say, Robyn; I love the car!)

Don'cha just love finding out something totally amazing about people that you had idea about? It's a paradigm shift of major proportions, isn't it?

A hat tip to ol' Uncle Earl; a true Bubba if there ever was one!

Cheers!
