I like how you frame this, Jim, a manager uses questioning to stride the boss's best interest, to demand and earn attention for his own best interest.
You really grasp the depth of power underneath a two-footed question. At times it works well to have two-footed questions in mind ahead of a crucial meeting. Don't force it, but look for the moment when it works to your advantage.

Robyn, this is such a powerful way to depict intelligent questioning techniques - particularly, although certainly not exclusively, when addressing them to another.
"What can I do?" totters perilously close to collapsing from disinterest until you punctuate it with "... for you today?" Down came the other foot: a firmly planted question standing astride your boss's interest, demanding and earning attention.
