Gravatar Hmmm... Jeanne, thanks. You and others have been very kind.

Gravatar Mark, thanks for stopping by. It really as been a great way to touch base with folks who take time to comment. I truly appreciate the give and take of conversations.

I'll have to stop by your blog again soon.

Gravatar Hi Gavin, you were one of the first visitors to my site. It's so much fun to keep up with you at Servant of Chaos. You have your finger into so many projects!

Thanks so much for your leadership to develop, edit and assemble Age of Conversation2. Conversation plays a key role in Social Media!

Love to keep that amazing mind of yours sharpened!

Gravatar Heroes rarely think of themselves as such.

Gravatar Thanks so much, Robyn, for including me in such august company. I'm both humbled and honored. Again, thanks. And thanks for all you contribute to this weird world of social media!

Gravatar Gee, Robyn, you're making me blush

Thanks for your thought provoking, and mind-sharpening insights. You certainly live up to your blog's name by keeping us all thinking!

Gravatar Jeannie, I really value that.

Gravatar Jeannie, it's still hard to connect the word hero to myself. My hubby calls me that and it's different. I could think of so many others that I'd name a Social Media hero over myself...

Gravatar Lillie, I think you have a better perspective regarding your success as well! In no way are you a failure.

Gravatar Happy to help keep the Brain-Based buzz going!

Gravatar Well, Robyn, it's certainly true that your readers' repeated interactions here at Brain Based Biz serve as one sure indicator of your widespread popularity as a social media hero!

I love the intriguing topics your blog covers, your thorough and interesting treatment of those topics, and the thoughtful (in both senses of the word) manner in which you engage your readers in comments--all of which make commenting here a pleasure!

Gravatar Shama, great to see you again. Thanks for the kind words.

Gravatar Thanks, Joanna and Robyn! You've given me a new perspective about blogging as social media.

Gravatar Brad, I really value my community and this was a great way to say so! You are my hero, too. You go back to the beginning and it seems we have learned much from one another.

Gravatar Joanna, I met you early on and I was fascinated by your appoach to writing and your very curious mind. It's such a pleasure to visit your blog and find such fresh approaches to writing and blogging. I've been so inspired by the way you switched to Word Press.

I read Lillie's comment and my first thought was that Lillie is a social media star since she is excellent in both blogging and commenting and reaching out to a wider audience with a fresh approach. I'm glad we both set her straight on this.

I love to see who visits other bloggers, too, and I check to see their work. It's a great way to find new people in many types of work.

Gravatar Jeanne, I'm amazed at your tenacity to keep conversations going here and on many other sites. I truly value that!

Gravatar Jeanne, when Liz named me as a social media hero, I simply could not take all the credit for that because it is my readers and wider community that helped to make Brain Based Biz what it is today. I'm glad I've had the joy of picking your brain and the brain of many readers.

Gravatar Karen, avoiding any jargon connected to social media is extremely important in my mind. I have to be very mindful of jargon that is often connected to neuroscience and brain research and speak in everyday language to connect to a general audience which includes bloggers and non-bloggers.

Do keep us all posted about targeting more active conversations with readers of your blog.

Gravatar Lillie, you are indeed part of social media since you blog and connect to other bloggers worldwide. And you are very good!

Robyn

Gravatar Hi Robyn,

Thanks so much for the mention. Great blog you have here!

Gravatar Robyn, I'm tickled pink to be included in your list of friends. It says a great deal about you that you have so many friends. Liz was obviously correct!

Gravatar Robyn, I also smiled when I saw your name mentioned in Liz's post. I think you do fantastic work in making brain research available to 'ordinary people' like us who wouldn't otherwise find out what's going on and discover how the findings can help us in our lives.

Just picking up on a point of Lillie's, I think blogs are the best form of social media. Well it's media and it's very social! Which makes Lillie a star not a failure

Thanks for sharing the links to your community. Interesting to see who else is learning and playing here

Joanna

Gravatar That was supposed to be

Gravatar Thanks so much, Robyn! I've greatly enjoyed the fascinating conversations we've had in comments here at Brain Based Biz! And it's so generous of you to list so many social media heroes! I think everyone on your list would agree with me when I say, "You're my social media hero, too!"

Gravatar Robyn, I have truly began considering this and it has shifted my perspective. I now know that non-bloggers do read my blog. They very often do not subscribe or comment but they read so I have tried to broaden the posts a bit to be more inclusive and avoid "insider" jargon that excludes them. I also have learned not to judge what I write by responses, or subscribers knowing that reading and conversations are not always taking place on my blog. I have been thinking of ways to actively target, I will keep you posted!

Gravatar Robyn,
Thanks for this generous and thought-provoking post. I was surprised at first because when I hear the words "social media" I think Twitter, Plurk, Facebook, MySpace—all things I either don't to at all or don't do well. I consider myself pretty much a failure in the social media department. You've changed my perspective. Although I don't do most of the things I think of as social media, I do comment.

Gravatar Karen, at times some of these folks who are not part of social media find our sites. Generally they're looking for information. I'm hoping we fill their needs and that they come again. Many are right in our neighborhood and we touch them in person.

Karen, as you write, do you keep in mind - the non-blogger as well as the blogger? What differences do you see as you address the two?

Gravatar Karen, great to see you! I'll be stopping by to see what's on your mind, too.

Gravatar Thanks so much, Liz... you stirred this blog. Shortly after I thought I had written enough posts here, I ventured out into the blogosphere and discovered your work. You bring out the best in so many people. It's at the heart of your work. I can't say thanks enough.

Gravatar Mike, like I said, it's so good to see you back!

I so agree that we need a mutual provocation society rather than a mutual admiration society. My thought is that Dennis got that ball rolling.

You were one of my early contacts as I got started. Every time you comment you bring a great idea to consider.

Best part about the work we do is that it keeps evolving as we keep learning and meeting new challenges.

The happy tunes keep it rolling!

Gravatar Dennis, your question needs to be asked. Most of my posts focus on brain research in relation to business applications. I write to my audience and connect them to the topic. That balance appeals to readers. I solicit questions like yours and often follow up with posts.

Thanks for your question... I'll be thinking on it...

Gravatar Robert, to focus on friends was a natural! When I thought about how Liz positioned me I could not take all the credit, because it's my community, too. Without thoughtful bloggers like you and others asking deep questions, and providing perspectives that I hadn't considered, my work was pushed to a higher level. So thanks, Robert.

Gravatar Wow Robyn, that's a couple of nice (and international) names your up with there - and well deserved. Thank you for what you do!

Gravatar My goodness Robyn, this sure made me smile today! Thank you! It's true that commenters at our blogs are our heroes. You certainly recreated the warmth and celebration of all of them.

I have met many a bloggers through Liz Strauss - I don't want to miss anyone so best not try and mention all. She's definitely the hub of much bloggy connectivity

Gravatar Robyn, I can remember reading Liz's post and smiling and nodding as I read. It is recognition that is well deserved. I have long list of social media heroes but today there is one person that stands out - the person who is not actively involved in social media today. Lately my thoughts go to the non-blogger, the person who does not twitter or plurk and perhaps uses the internet for email and Google. That person who represents millions guides me these days as I think of how to educate and embrace rather than leave behind.

Gravatar What a great list, Robyn! I haven't been over here in a while and I miss it! Off to explore more!

Gravatar Thank you, Robyn, for your generosity, your spirit, and your kindness. You bring us up!!

I always sit here smiling and leave with you lightly on my mind.

Gravatar Robyn,

Thank you including me. You know of course, that you are equally amazing to me.

As Dennis mentions above, life is full of opportunities to create mere mutual admiration societies.

So it comes to choosing a different path.

I'd rather create a mutual provocation society!

There's nothing better than being provoked to think a new thought, assume a new point of view, abandon an outdated perspective.

Keep creating...a new song worth humming all day long,
Mike

Gravatar Robyn
I know it is not the intention of the post, but it raises a somewhat contrarian thought:

What are the risk of the blogosphere becoming a mutual admiration society?

Keep up the good work...

Gravatar Hey, and many more noodles to you, Robyn! You're an inspiration to us all!
