What I want to see is diversity in terms of upbringing. Sometimes I think the 'people of color' is a smokescreen - aren't they all still Ivy Leaguers? Where's the economic diversity? I know that's probably a stretch and progress is progress... but still.

Hey, I just found this comment.
Look at Clinton himself - look where he came from, in contrast to Bush and Kerry. Maybe that's why he seemed to have more empathy than most national pols.
You've got a point in that not all black people automatically understand what it's like to overcome economic adversity. There was an article in Slate a while back by a black woman who, if I remember correctly, was sort of chagrinned by the fact that her kids were growing up as typical rich kids.
