But DO read "The Kite Runner" --- I can't remember the author's name, but he's from Afghanistan, and brilliant. It'll break your heart a million fucking times, but it's worth it.

And just about anything by Jane Smiley. "MOO" and "Horse Heaven" are my personal favorites. "A Thousand Acres" won the Pulitzer, but it was sooooooo fucking depressing.

I've read "A Thousand Acres," liked it. I've got "Horse Heaven" but haven't read it yet. It's in the line-up. I'll get to it soon.

I haven't made much progress in "Music For Torching" (went out of town this weekend) but I just got to the part where (SPOILER ALERT, sort of) Elaine boinks her neighbor's wife. 'Bout time one of these losers did something interesting.
