Thank you for your outrage! My co-workers, board of directors and myself could not believe this article or the fact that the NYTimes actually published it. What century is this again? I do not live in New York, nor have I ever eaten at "Prune" (!:?!) but I hope that people follow your advice and steer clear of the place and let it be know that this is NOT a nice person.

Thank you for awarding this unholy honor upon Gabrielle Hamilton. You summed it up perfectly.

WHAT A DEAD FUCKING CUNT.
I don't mean "dead" in any "threatening" manner, I mean it in the sense used by Lili & Melina on "MadTV" --- "dead bitch" meaning, cold, useless, dead to the world.
I just hope that somebody who is, shall we say, "connected" to, say, certain "families" in the greater NYC area, has a certain poignant sympathy with the visually impaired, and... oh, say, Gabrielle is visited by, oh, say, an "emissary" of such a family...
Hoping and hoping and hoping...

Thank you for your post. I am still in shock that the New York Times Magazine published such an offensive, insensitive piece. At the American Foundation for the Blind, where I work, we've been talking a lot about this on our blog. Tons of people from across the country have been commenting. You can check it out at www.afb.org/blog. Thanks again, Adrianna

Well, that was good and disgusting. What would ever possess somewhat to write something that onerous?
I can't wait for the next award "winner"!

I just saw a big fat typo in this post, but I can't correct it because Blogger is down.
New commenters, thanks for stopping by. Adrianna, I'll post a link to the AFB blog as soon as Blogger lets me . . .

May I suggest that, as the winner of the Barbara Bush Humanitarian Award, Ms. Hamilton receive a strand of white pop-apart plastic pearls snuggly nestled in a miniature black velveteen body bag?

Grace, only if said pearls have recently been extracted from the anus of a syphillitic inmate at Bellview's mental ward (Permanent Resident Wing).

I, too, have read Ms Hamilton's horrid article. I have never been to her restaurant, and I don't want to dine there ever. Not unless my meal is safe to eat, and the service is good. I just want to stay the hell away from Gabrielle! I thank the American Foundation for the Blind and everyone else for bringing this to the attention of many bloggers.
