Very true. I hadn't really thought of it, but you are right, the debate has indeed started. However, let us not forget that there are no out politicians in Greece, there are virtually no out celebrities, in fact, and those who do discuss gay rights more often than not do so in the spirit of hegemonic tolerance rather than personally invested participation.

Anyway, congrats on an excellent blog - which I've only discovered today thanks to GreekGayLolita who's linked to this post.

Gravatar Sorry - didn't mean for the above to be anonymous and didn't realise your comments system doesn't automatically log in bloggers.

Congrats once again

Gravatar Paul McCartney is straight.

Gravatar George, many thanks for your kind comments. Keep reading and i look forward to reading your own work.

Tim, you're right. And, after there's you right?

Gravatar Go on, go on!! Great post.

Well, still, I havent convinced people in Greece that I have every right to go on vacation separately from my husband

I imagine (with secret joy as I like to shock them sex-hungry church-addicts) the reactions of relatives when I say I'll come over with my girlfriend (as in lover).

Will they disown me? Couldnt care less. I've disowned them first. Years ago.

Gravatar Vasvoe, can i come and watch as you break the news? please??

Gravatar very nice post... its true that the greek debate has begun but in the typical mutated greek way... the "talented people" argument is just stupid, sorry... bc even if we accept this, the real question is: were they talented bc of their gayness (as a gene issue correlated to homosexuality) or bc of the "inner" struggle of a person different from the norm that had to think more and fight for rights that the rest of society perceived as default?

and btw...
the 20th century greats:
science: einstein = straight
arts: picasso = straight
movies: welles, bergman, kazan, spielberg, kubrick, chaplin u name it = straight
music: beatles, presley or even xenakis = straight

need i go on?

ps: unless they were closet cases, right?

Gravatar oops roman, i forgot to put my name on... yes, its me...

Gravatar Yo babe.

Hey i'm just kidding about the celebrity thing. or actually i'm not kidding; but i'm not arguing that they were great because they were gay either.

i'm just trying to make the point that gay people aren't some anonymous sick psychopaths (but, hey, even if they were who gives a fuck!).

All those homophobes who slag off gay people should just have a look at the paintings on their walls and at the books on their bedrooms' bookshelves, and *then* try to make an argument about deviance / sickness / sin / whatever else bollocks people come up with.

p.s. interesting point that maybe they were creative because they were (consciously or subconsciously) facing social pressure; i've thought about it myself but as you say there are so many talented straight people out there so you can't base your argumentation on that (although that context may be an additional creative force).

Gravatar if u set ur argument as an answer to the ridiculous notion of gay=sick then yea, i agree completely...

and as for the social pressure and straight people i say that they might have faced a social pressure of some other kind... i tend to believe that the real law is that creativity has to emerge out of some context of pressure and inner torture, whatever the case might be... creation goes hand in hand with pain i guess... it certainly makes it deeper...

Gravatar agreed.

speaking of which, are we suffering enough yet for the purposes of our script or are we not supposed to talk about it in public?

Gravatar Great post,
Lots of issues to talk about, I myself living outside Greece, still keep an eye on the events and just heard about the question of A.Alavanos. And I got angry! I thought of sending at least some emails, like bombarding the minister of justice or something....God, what hypocrits the politicians are...
Well at least, now UK is added in the list of equal gay rights...

Gravatar lets not go public yet about the film... lets keep it "closet"... lol

Gravatar Alximist, thanks for the comment - your blog seems really interesting.

Johnny, would that be the 'celluloid closet'?? Lol

Gravatar heres how the germans join the debate
