With Delay saying that there isn't any pork to cut, and Bush spending like a drunken Democrat on shore leave (and nominating a possible Souter to be Chief Justice and sending Karen Hughes on a listening tour to our enemies, and saying he supports diversity on the SCOTUS, etc) I have to wonder just WHERE ARE THE CONSERVATIVES?

A (so called) Republican is advancing the notion that natural disaster response requires the Federal Government overriding a governor. Give me the Clinton years. At least then Republicans had a small bit of a spine (at least in the House).

Gravatar Shays is a Republican?

Gravatar It's over! The Republican majority has ceded de-facto control to the Democrats. These Senators have all become RINOS now in their lust to be loved by the MSM and the Dems for being sensitive, and caring, for not over-reaching, for not conducting a witch hunt, etc. etc. etc. But they sure know how to eat their own! For me, I'm taking a long, extended break from the political realm (including my checkbook). I'm ready to get back to sports-talk, Texas Hold-em, and similar venues, and to tune out the new moonbats, otherwise known as the Republican majority.

Gravatar I also was disgusted by the Republicans giving Kathleen Blanco a pass on answering questions about what went wrong. I wonder if they weren't just being nice to "the girl," afraid she'd get all teary-eyed and fall apart and they'd get blamed and lose votes from women.

But I wasn't quite as disgusted with the Blanco session as I was when William Jefferson, Congressman from the Big Easy and target of an FBI corruption probe, participated in the grilling of Michael Brown. This, just a week or so after the Congressman misused the National Guard to take him to his own property to recover unspecified personal property. Talk about a Jamie Gorelick moment!

I have to wonder how much of the president's low approval ratings is due to conservative disgust with Republicans losing their spines. As they used to say on the SNL skit, "Poor Mr. Luebner, he had no spine."

Gravatar There's something so appropriate in the term 'Rohypnol Republicans'.

Gravatar I've had it too. I'll still vote for conservative Repubs who demonstrate a record of commitment to principles, but I've finally decided I've had it with voting for the lesser of two evils (since it doesn't seem to work out to be much "lesser"). So, if it's McCain v. Hillary in '08, I'll be "wasting" my vote on the Libertarian candidate.

Gravatar BTW, I was glad to see Lott bounced, too, but not because anyone was calling for his head.

In the course of defending himself, he demonstrated that he was politically tone-deaf and was a PR disaster, in that he kept shoving his foot further into his mouth (I watched him on BET and was cringing through the entire interview).

The job was his to lose, and that's exactly what he did. Not so with DeLay. The ball was in his court after the indictment was announced yesterday and he ran with it. Now it's the other side's turn.

Gravatar Agreed.

If he stays on the offense he will win.

We only lose by caving (most of the time), and DeLay needs to keep swinging. I liked his response.

Crooks & Liars had only one tack on DeLay's response to his "indictment." They criticize how many times he uses the terms "fanatic" and "Liberal" in his retort.

Yeah, the left's got an iron-clad case for caving. Can the Republicans meet the challenge?

Say your prayers . . .

Gravatar I love politics. I truly do. I love this country. I vote conservative. I vote republican. But...

If I were to put a democrat and a republican in a sack could you still teach an old dog to make a silk purse from a pig in a poke...? Wait..

I think I lost my train of thougt. Plenty of great conservative republicans in the house and senate we're just not hearing much about them or from them. I'm hoping and praying for the best because of my children but keeping in mind a phrase from a very old book and popularized by a great 80's/90's band

"We are strangers, we are aliens
We are not of this world" -Petra

Gravatar Nice rant...Count me in on being nostalgic for the Clinton (holding my nose)/Gingrich (holding my nose, again; but not as much) days of fiscal conservatism.

Gravatar Finally someone is saying what I have been thinking. Wuzzadem had a good point on why Blanco got a pass, but the rest of the Repubs are all making me sick. I love your blog, Therapist. You can't quit now.

Gravatar The only thing I'm quitting is redundancy.

Thank you, jayne.

Gravatar Jarrod,

Hmmm. 1984. "Not Of This World" Tour. First song on the album if you don't count John Slick's synthesized doxology muddle. But I'm also reminded of the next song as well:

And we all will stand,
at the Bema seat
all will be revealed,
it will be complete.

Will there be reward,
in the fiery heat?
When we see a light,
at the Bema seat.

Gravatar I so agree with you. And with Ho Lee Phuc about Wm. Jefferson attacking Brown.

If the Republicans keep giving in, we won't have to vote against them. Because they'll all be Democrats.

Gravatar >The only thing I'm quitting is redundancy.

I thought you said that before?

Yes, the thought that one could bring the coming sooner by just voting dem. is compelling, but you are the salt, man.
When you put your hand to the plow
Don't look back
And when you take that final vow
Don't look back
And when you hear the angels sing
Hallelujah
D-o--on't look back

Gravatar I've said a lot of things before. It has no bearing on my skills of execution.

Gravatar The milquetoast Republicans are a sham. They are NOT leaders - they are panderers and appeasers. I'd give anything for a John Wayne, Reagan-esque leader to step up and brook no arguments and make no apologies.

Please g-d, just for once I'd like to elect a leader who celebrates the strength of America and doesn't apologize for it; who honors the heritage of our Constitution as the miracle of civilization that it truly is; who crushes our enemies with no remorse or doubt; and whose word is his bond.

Spare me from politicians - they'll be the death of us. A politican is NOT a leader, and by definition, cannot be. For once, I'd like to elect a leader to truly LEAD our country - not pander, appease, acquiesce, compromise, double-talk, obfuscate, and capitulate.

*sigh* I need a hero.
