I remember this story!! It was really well done but I remember being furious near the end. Maybe I was young but I was mad at the heroine for her decision even though she corrected it. It was a great story though - wonder where that book is?

I hadn't even heard of this book until your review, but now it's added to the list of books to search for. You're totally correct that no one does dialogue in a contemporary like Crusie. Thanks.

I hadn't heard of this book either, until now. I love Crusie's older books so much, but I can't see shelling out the $10 for the newly re-released hardcover of one of them (can't think of the name; it's got a light green dustjacket).
On another note...I notice that you have Street of the Five Moons on your list over there...I have to jump in and say how much I love that series by Eliz Peters--the Vicky Bliss series.
My all-time favorite books ever are the last two in the series, Trojan Gold and Night Train to Memphis.
Are are very romantic books (not to mention witty and literate) that aren't romances.

Cindy: Yeah, I didn't completely like that, but everything turned out fine, as far as I was concerned. Go look for it and reread it!
Susan K: I hope you like it, too. The dialogue here rates among her best books, IMO.
Colleen: If the HC in the light green dustjacket is Anyone But You, then I'd say buy it. But only if it's Anyone But You. That's the only series title I'd buy as a HC, it's that good! This one's great, but not on that level :-D
And I completely agree, the Vicky Bliss series is incredible. I'm rereading it, as I do periodically. My own personal fave is Trojan Gold. That one's got the most romantic declaration of love I've ever read!
Marg: Oh, right, September's category romance, right? Should be fun, I've got some in my TBR that have been there for 5 or 6 years!

Oh, Rosario! You are a woman after my own heart!
Yes, I agree that John's "I didn't want to, but I couldn't help it" declaration is shivery-romantic.
But I think it's because of that that I love Night Train so much...the angst he was going through during the first half of the book! Sigh. I love it. That scene in the car where John's sleeping and Vicky's getting lectured by the Egyptian guy whose name escapes me at the moment...love it.
I reread that book at least once every six months, no joke. And Trojan Gold about once a year.
It's fun to find someone else who loves those books--none of my other friends have read them. Thanks!

I have been lookin for this book for a couple of years. I hope it is reprinted one of these days soon. I love some of her older books. Crusie is the queen of witty dialogue.

Colleen: "I have loved you. I do love you. I will love you. I didn’t want to love you. I tried not to love you. I will undoubtedly regret loving you, but—God help me—I love you—so much--" Ahhhh! :-D That just melts me!
Renée: Here's hoping that it is. It probably will, I think!

Like Colleen, I hadn't heard of this old series romance by Crusie, and now I'm wondering how I missed it.
Off to look for a used copy at a reasonable price.
