As a gifted education teacher, how awesome it would be to work for a school like you described...but if we all go to private schools, who will teach the "average or typical" child in the United States?
Somehow in all of our we have to get our students to do better...we lose sight of the fact that not all kids are going to have the natural ability to do well...not all parents will step up to the plate...not any one or two standardized tests will really measure success.
What is the answer? I don't know. If I did, I'd be a consultant making millions.

That is the irony in all of this. For every good school that exists, there is a school that has kids that may need a little help to succeed, but a lack of community and parental involvement usually puts a strain on well-meaning teachers who really have their heart into their teaching. Some teachers in Philadelphia just stay long enough to get experience and then "flee" to the suburbs were they hope that things will turn out a lot better.
