Fascinating piece. Today's candidates need to understand they are never "off the record" with the advent of cell phone cameras and YouTube - George Allen learned this the hard way last cycle.
Just as Nixon missed the boat in 1960 by not applying makeup before the televised debate, Hillary has bungled a huge opportunity to redefine herself among young people by not seizing the power of the Internet for organizing. Sure, she's clearly most qualified candidate...but she's not nearly as exciting as Barack.
Perhaps the digital revolution is just what the doctor ordered for our political process. Now candidates won't need multi-million dollar war chests for ads during "Eat The Press" - they just need enthusiastic supporters to tell their stories for them in an organic way e.g. Obama Girl. And, Barack has been able to effectively dispel the opposition's weak attempts to paint him as a Islamo-fascist sympathizer, not by going on 60 Minutes but by disseminating the facts about himself on the Internet.
