Aside from the band's great PR, I'm curious how much more money they garnered by taking out the record company middleman. I used to own a music production facility and music publishing company and I know that the record company can take a big chunk of the band's profits. Certainly, the record companies of today have been having some PR issues themselves. They are quickly becoming irrelevant as you point out in your entry. It will be interesting to see if they can adapt to the new world of Web 2.0.
