Gravatar PR professionals need to be careful to attribute leadership roles as opposed to supporting roles to PR initiatives. I have two colleagues who led and are currently leading the Internet/online marketing at the American National Red Cross since 2001, Cindy Long and Alec Minor respectively.

Gravatar @ Susan… Yes, it would be completely inaccurate to say that I led the Red Cross online team, which I believe is your above point. However, I did, in fact, lead the Red Cross Web outreach efforts, which included such things as Cruzrojaamericana.org and the Redcross.org Store, as the post states. Sorry to quibble, but I suffer from the traditional Midwestern value of modesty and I would hate to overstate my role.

Gravatar I don't mind the quibble either, but your statement reads, "leading the organization’s Web outreach efforts."

By using the "including" it makes the following words just a "part" or "secondary" or "examples" to the overall efforts that you led.

I guess why didn't you just say you led the award-winning Spanish Web site Cruzrojaamericana.org, the Redcross.org Store as they are very noteworthy accomplishments.

Gravatar Susan, you are accusing my colleague in a public forum of inflating her resume.

Yet you are doing it anonymously. Why? I should think that someone so concerned about proper PR practice would stand behind such a charge with her real name.

You also make your point in a curiously backhanded way. Your initial post is a model of passive aggression.

If you're going to call someone a liar, at least do it forthrightly and stand behind it.

Gravatar As Amanda's former supervisor at the Red Cross, under Alec, I can say that this accurately reflects her job duties. Alec, and Cindi before him, is (was) the Director of Internet Marketing, which is an incredibly demanding job, requiring the delegation of responsiblities such as the ones Amanda was assigned. She was tasked with web outreach via public relations and some other off and online marketing efforts; therefore, it is accurate to say that during her tenure in that position she led the web outreach efforts for the Red Cross public web sites referenced. Please also note that one definition of "Include(ing)" is: "to contain, as a whole does parts or any part or element." I hope that puts a respectful and peaceful closure to this debate.

Gravatar Thank you, Leigh-Anne.
