Ugh, I hate people who try so hard to sound fancy - it's totally just an elitist attempt to try to feel better than other people, usually with little foundation behind the word to justify it's intent. Contrapuntalist? Sounds more like a term for the place kicker in football than someone who is Modern Orthodox to me.
It almost always bothers me when people try to sound "academic" in an attempt to be original. It wastes the time of the reader and the writer.
I look down on snobbery in general.
