I still maintain that if they really wanted to protect pregnant women, it would be an offense to attack HER, "even if" there is no injury to the fetus.
This is like saying, "Beat your pregnant wife/gf all you like as long as you don't injure the fetus."
It totally ignores the significant majority of abuse to pregnant women.

There's already a law against assault.
The law's purpose is to address an undesirable vacuum in the legal system, that is, that no one is accountable for the injury or death of a fetus.

So, we're quite clear on the stance that it is protecting pregnant women or their desires is bull, then?
And we're also clear that the way to protect the fetus is to protect the woman?
And then that this bill is about punishing someone for injuring/killing the fetus against the woman's wishes?

All laws that seek to punish seek to protect.
But anyone who's intent on assaulting or murdering someone will probably not be dissuaded by the law.
My take is that I have a right to my fetus.
And we're also clear that the way to protect the fetus is to protect the woman?
That can be one way. But I want my right to my fetus acknowledged.
And then that this bill is about punishing someone for injuring/killing the fetus against the woman's wishes?
That is my take.

If you take a look at those states and countries that have this type of law already in place you will see that it does not reduce violence against pregnant women but what it does promote is persecution and prosecution of pregnant women. More should be done to support pregnant women as there are already laws in place, as you know, against assault.

"And then that this bill is about punishing someone for injuring/killing the fetus against the woman's wishes?
That is my take."
Then the bill should be worded in such a way that the wrong is done to the woman. And *presto* everyone would be onside.
But then, you've already referred to it as the "kicking abortion's ass" bill, n'est-ce pas?
How much credibility do you think you have when you talk out of one side of your mouth with one set of people, and the other side with a different group?
