Those compassionate conservatives! A life sentence for a 16 yr old for killing a fetus from a bubba Judge named Duke...ya, sounds about right...sick...

Oh, and Suzanne, this was not justice...

Gravatar You have only yourselves to blame for that.

Gravatar SQ

A 16-year-old knows perfectly well that killing someone is wrong.

And most women would consider killing their 5-month fetus a murder.

Gravatar Sure JJ, don't take any responsibility for the absence of an unborn victims of crime law.

Gravatar Hey Southern Quebec: There are way too many assaults and murders of pregnant women. Often it is done in retaliation for the woman's refusal to have an abortion, but not always. Either way, it seems that, in some people's minds at least, it's open season on pregnant women who aren't planning to abort.

So much for a woman's right to choose. Great choice, eh? Either you chose to get an abortion or we will kill you.

It never ceases to amaze me how the mainstream feminists are so silent about this issue. The threat of violence or death for refusing abortion squelches a woman's right to choose like nothing else. But the mainstream feminists are so not defending these women. Sometimes they even campaign against tightening laws to protect these women.

They claim they are for choice, but you are on your own if you want to make a choice different from what they would have you make. That includes protecting your own life too.

Oh, about Southern Quebec's concern that the sentence was too harsh: How harsh was the treatment the woman and her baby got? If these crimes are punished harshly, maybe some of these creepy guys who attack pregnant women will think twice before they try it.

Gravatar CC: Nowhere in the article does it say the fetus was killed because the woman did not want to abort. The way I read the article was that it was just a "random act of violence".

"If these crimes are punished harshly, maybe some of these creepy guys who attack pregnant women will think twice before they try it." Right...and the death penalty stopped all murders in the States...ooops...

Gravatar It never ceases to amaze me how the mainstream feminists are so silent about this issue.

Silent on the issue of abused women - formerly referred to as "Spousal Abuse" or "Battered Women"?

I'm sorry, maybe we're just to busy ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

I don't recall any right-wingers sitting in the car with me when we'd pick up women at the police station or hospital and take them to a shelter - that we'd pick randomly to ensure that the abuser couldn't find them. I don't drive so my job was always to sit with the woman in question and calm her or listen to her story - and let me tell you what an eye-opening experience that was for a teen-aged girl.

Here's the thing: we're not just doing it for women who are containers of the prized fetus.

So while it's nice of you to jump on the band-wagon thirty-plus years later, don't think we're not going to call you on the transparency of your efforts to co-opt the work that has been done FOR A LONG LONG TIME without your help.

Nice try, though.

Gravatar Actually, JJ and I and a lot of other 'Vicious Abortion Crusaders' (epithet courtesy of LifeShite, can't remember which one) take some CREDIT for there not being a so-called unborn victims law in Canada.

We worked hard against C-484, Ken Epp's sneaky private member's bill, called by whassisname SoWrongorBust 'the Kicking Abortion's Ass Bill'. We ran with that. And won.

Gravatar The truth is, it was opposition from Quebec groups that sealed that bill's fate because Harper is looking for votes there. The chattering classes opposed it.
