"Sexual practice" is not a sin. I know exacly what you meant, but we don't have a good word for "sexual malpractice". We probably need one. It is often a big semantic sticking point on this issue.

I think many do equate love with approval, in both directions. i.e., “If X approves of x (something I am doing), then X loves me,” or, “Because I love X, I can’t suggests that x (something X is doing) is wrong; it’s none of my business.” But of course the more one truly loves, the more one wants the best for whomever one loves, which will include correction (Hebrews 12)

It would seem that unrepentant sin precludes leadership because it precludes spiritual authority. Not to mention trust. The distinction you note is so important!
