Gravatar I'm doing a little of this in law school right now, not enough to feel confident enough to write anything formal, but a general trend I have noticed is that employee cooperation means a lot to the courts.

If you need an accomodation, have several plans for getting it so that should it come to litigation, it looks like you tried to work with the employeer.

(e.g. As a Rastafarian, I'm afraid I can't shave my beard or keep it trimmed. If I can't have an exception to the dress code, can I work in the back and have no employee contact? That way, my appearance won't matter as much.)

That's a really good point. So presenting an option (or several) to your employer makes you seem like a reasonable cooperate person rather than a petulant employee demanding "special" privileges.
