I got halfway through the movie and gave it up as a bad investment. The actors were pretty stale and the plot was veering off in the weird direction you mention. Glad I didn't perservere.

The halfway point was exactly where it turned. I thought it was almost as if they had changed writers at that point.... Your time was well spent turning it off.
