In Asia, most women from rural areas are into breast feeding even in public places. I just don't know about the US.

I nursed my baby in a countertop showroom yesterday while considering Corian samples. The male salesman didn't seem too thrown by it. Better than having the baby screaming, I'd say. And there wasn't much to see besides the back of her head, unless you were staring constantly to catch a quick glimpse of nipple.

I'm not much of a rebel or activist, but I have decided to quietly promote breastfeeding by simply doing it.

Gravatar I can't even remember the last time I saw a woman breastfeed in public. And there are a number of cases that have gained publicity when women were kicked out of businesses for breastfeeding, including Victoria's Secret.

Gravatar And, Anne P. viva la revolucion!

Gravatar There were some pictures of Maggie Gyllenhall breastfeeding public on The Superficial just the other day.

Of course, it devolved into comments about her breasts. I mean, boobies. ;^)

Gravatar I've seen many women breastfeed in public. (No, I don't look for these encounters.) Usually they are very discreet, even having blankets to drape over nursing child. Even those without such coverings usually showed less breast than the average halter top. People need to get lives.

Gravatar Yeah, the Gyllenhall pictures on Gawker prompted my original post.

And, Michael, I wonder if there are some regional differences in terms of how much people breastfeed. I really haven't seen anyone breastfeed outside the home in Los Angeles....maybe I'm not looking right?
