I tossed out some Chinese made maltose today -- I had no way of knowing it hadn't been adulterated.

Was it part of a processed product?
I just sent Trader Joe's an email about the possibility of Chinese ingredients in their processed goods.

No, just a tub of maltose, a thick rice and barley based syrop. Was looking for alternative sweeteners.

So, it will say right on the label if it comes from China?

You make a good point. I was going to post on this later. It is time, imho, to ask Congress to make a law requiring the origin of food products on the label. There is no such law.
So, Kat, you can often see on a label where a product comes from, especially with products that are unprocessed. However, if the product is processed in some way (flavored rice, cereal, mouthwash), you can only find out where it is "distributed by" on the label. Not good for the consumer to make an informed choice.
