Gravatar My generation often slacks simply because it can. But then there are a lot of us who were promised that we could find fulfilling jobs in areas that would allow us to pursue our dreams. Alas, we were not told that such jobs are often in short supply and are in high competition.

Gravatar My husband certainly agrees. It seemed that the general promise was that if you worked hard, studied, and went to college, you could get a job where you were paid and treated well. I certainly haven't ever had that happen.

The "slacking" to me is more the result of entering a job market during a recession....no?

Gravatar hey, thanks! nice comments. these other comments make me think i need to qualify my description of slacking. and the big problem i'm running into here is how big the problem is. you can't get a job because the jobs are all moving to people who can be paid 14 cents an hr. it's hard to buy anything that isn't made by those people. check out the Coalition of Immokalee Workers Fair Food Campaign. it's a start. not a complete start, but one doesn't take on an entire economy at once. anyway, thanks..
