I am grateful that you are writing about these things, because your insights have helped me recognize some aspects of my deeply unsatisfying work experiences. Luckily, I get to quit my job in July when my family moves on to wherever my husband is settled as a UU minister.

One gripe, however - your white text on black background really really hurts my eyes.

I've wanted to change the template for a while, but changing a template seems to wipe out all links in the side column, and years of my life have been devoted to entering those links....

You can just copy the text that generates your links from the source code of your current template into your new template - make sure to pick one that supports a sidebar, and you should be golden. If you can't find where they are in the blogger interface for managing your template (it's been awhile since I worked with Blogger, but I seem to remember some way to work with the template coding...), you can get the code from "View Source" in your browser.
