So? I asked my beloved the evening before if she was going to be upset because I hadn't gotten her a bundle of pesticide-covered roses flown in from Bolivia.

She laughed and said she didn't mind at all.

Hank, that's a damn good way to put it. We'll be showing the film Love, Women, and Flowers for our Women's History Week events this year. After screening the film, which is about the imported flower industry, I can honestly say those beautiful roses don't look quite so pretty anymore.

But I can say all this from a position of comfort and control over my own life and the choices I make. I also realize that those women would be worse off without a job of any kind. The working conditions need to be drastically improved, though.
