If there's one thing I've noticed over here (Oz) it's that the drivers are crap. A friend I was staying with when I first arrived almost drove into the back of someone else at speed on the motorway. If I hadn't pointed out the windscreen and gasped I'd have been in an autowreck on the way from the flipping airport.
We have a dreaded mini-roundabout near us. And yesterday there was a nasty smash there.
The first of many I predict as so many drivers seem oblivious to the fact that you have to give way to the right. I've nearly been hit a couple times there myself.
Those stories are absolutely shocking. How is third-party insurance of the type you describe, that leaves you high and dry through absolutely no fault of your own (rear-ended by a drunk is a double-not-your-fault) even legal?
Glad you're ok anyhow. You must be getting my share of accidents, I've been driving 5 years and have never hit/been hit by another car *touch wood* The worst I've done to my darling car was when i had a bit of a twat-ish moment, when i was driving at no more than 10 mph and simultaneously searching for a car park barrier token to get out of work. I turned the car too late and drove straight into a bollard. I'd like to think that I'd notice a stationary car though.
