I noticed US chocolate wasnt so good actually. The choc in England is different anyway cos the choc doesnt have to have ingredients to stop it melting.

I have tried Canadian chocolates, Aero Bars, and they are quite good.
One thing I noticed is that American Chocolate seems to have parafin added into it, most likely as you say to keep it from melting, but probably adds to the slight waxy taste my wife talks about.
