I'm gonna have to agree with part of what you are saying. I listen to music for the lyrics. I don't care what era or genre, as long as I can relate on some level to the lyrics.

But... Foxworthy is pandering to the crowd he was paid to pander to. Country music is not excempt from the things Forworthy refers to as negative (and CMT likely rewards some of them).

Well, I couldn't get Jeff to play, but I'll comment on country music anyway...

I listen to music for the licks...lyrics come later.

Therefore, country music licks are all about the same, so I get turned off early.

I'm just now learning some of the lyrics from my favorite rock songs...and it's kind of exciting to rediscover them. Give me some pill bottle guitar and a lot of bottom!
