Technically it's t-bar, not a wheel. And the M1A1, which is what that is, only cost $4.3 mil (give or take). Sorry Chris - had to stand up for my fellow crewmen.
Any other tankers out there? If so, did you notice how they handled the potential radioactive exposure? LOL!

This one is wrong on so many levels.
Note that I didn't say incorrect, just wrong.

You have to have been in the service to appreciate this one.
If you asked a civilian "Is it possible for someone to get a 60-ton MBT totally claws up?" They'd say, "Naw, no one could manage that."
If you've been in...

Angle of up-ward motion is opposite of angle of down-ward motion unless you come to a complete in-appropriate stop
Driver: Opps!
SNCO: Not the correct answer driver.

I expect snide, elitist remarks like this fron Daily Kos or the Huffington Post not from a site that is supposedly pro military. This plays right into their belief that all military members are uneducated losers. Maybe it's me just but I fail to see the humor. Perhaps I'm a bit touchy after attending Gathering Of Eagles counter marches against anti American ass hats.

Well, sanjuro, I was a 19K (M1A1 Armor Crewman, for the uninitiated) for many years and I have zero problem with it because, despite having eaten my fair share of glue, I also have enough common sense to recognize sarcasm when I see and/or hear it.
And, despite having breathed enough diesel and cordite to qualify as my own personal superfund site, I don't think that every military-related website has to be either pro or con.
You know, this being an open and humorous medium, perhaps the intent is open to inpterpretation. At the very least, the charter is to poke fun at ourselves (and especially the chair farce), and even be truthful about the elephant in the room; i.e., the military isn't chock full of rocket scientists and fledgling geniuses, it's a cross section of American society for good and bad.
So, while I'm not telling you that you're wrong or that your opinion is unwelcome, I am saying, the site is open to all who come. Just revisit the McCain vs. Obama post from a few weeks back and see how we who use the site speak openly, freely, and intelligently about things that pique our interests, and without being pigeonholed (you're military - you MUST be a white, male, christian, republican) or force fed (fox news, cnn, al jazeera, et al. says that you soldiers are...). Do we soldiers have to play the same game, really?
Finally, speaking from experience, I can tell you that some truly idiotic recruits passed through the School of Armor ... the same can be said for Infantry, Aviation (another branch in which I served), the Navy the Air Force, the Enlisted ranks the Officer Corps...again, a cross section of our society.

It's funny because if you've ever been in the military, you might remember that Joe can screw up anything. That is why the Army has a lot of rules that most people think are stupid...because at one time or another Joe has and will screw it up. God love him.
If you can't laugh at yourself...

Try to enter a fighting position with a tank quickly, in the dark, after you have been awake for 48-72 hours and see how well you do. It is entirely possible, even probable, that one or more tankers lost their lives in this accident... there ARE two people riding with their upper bodies out of the hatches on top after all.
It's hard to see the terrain thru the night vision, what's a major hole and what's just a dip in the ground, etc. When I served at the NTC we had several OPFOR and BLUFOR Soldiers injured and killed from similar accidents.
It is NOT funny or humorous to anyone who has been there and done that.

You guys need to relax.
I watched a Bradley crew nearly die after driving straight off a 30' (+) cliff in pitch black in NTC's Colorado Wadi.
I've seen tanks sink in swollen flash flood rivers after soaked roadways collapsed.
And I've seen helicopters kill soldiers who were ground guiding them out of a hangar.
I've been in plenty of accidents and mishaps. I'm out as a disabled soldier, so I've sacrificed my body for the nation.
Fact is, the military is an inherently dangerous business. Machines kill indiscriminately.
But you know what, it's okay to laugh about stupid shit. We soldiers (et al) know the pain and understand that we laugh about it as a way of commiserating.
This is a place to laugh, not to get all bent out of shape over shit. There are more than enough places to take life far too seriously, this shouldn't be yet another place like that.
At ease the attitudes.

It may not be funny or humorous to you for I get the impression that you or a close friend{s} have been in one of these accidents due to the tone of your comment. If so, I hope with all my heart that you or your close friend{s} were not to badly hurt or KIA. When I have heard of these types of accidents, they have always happened during 'Battle Operations' or when the fatigue level was well beyond the scale of saftey and at that time I would say a quiet Prayer for those who were in the Tank.
What I thought when I looked at the pic was a brand new driver and his SNOC instructor out for his first driving lesson because most 'Stupid Shit' happen when you really don't know what you are doing. And you know that there will always be 'Stupid Shit' on any 'FUBAR Operation' so try to allow yourself a chance to laugh with the knowledge that we are laughing at the results of a 'FUBAR of Stupid Shit'.
