Gravatar YES it took me 50 minutes to go 3.5 miles home that day and I was on Carmelita in BH, which I normally have ALL TO MYSELF in the evenings. I too called my mom... and got 3 calls from my boyfriend who was ranting and raving because it took him and hour and 15 min to get from Venice to Olympic and Bundy. He was late to class too.

Gravatar Vicki, it isn't an academic class, plus it is 3 hours long. So being 45 minutes late isn't too, too bad.

Gravatar I found this and thought you might be interested:

Gravatar What kind of class are you taking that allows you to be 45 minutes late?

Gravatar I just wandered onto this blog and cannot help but add my two cents - and at least bring a little R.E.M situation-bonding after the fact.

I hopped in my car Monday morning, planning to stop at the gas station "just up the road." Of course the 4 minute drive took 30 minutes, I ran out of gas, it was pouring rain, and after walking to said gas station found there was no gas due to flooded tanks.

Plus, I also enjoyed the non-rainy days of mysterious traffic. And also called my mother. And am 23.

Gravatar I thought it was neat when that girl's pee retracted into her uterus.

Gravatar Hi, another person who was on Sunset that Wednesday. I called my mom, too, and when she answered the phone she said seh realized that she had missed my call. I admitted that I had actually called five times previously, just to do something. I didn't cry, but I did bust into a long line of words one usually doesn't use in front of their mother. For a while, I couldn't even get off Sunset because it was so slow that I couldn't change lanes. The canyons need to open back up, is all I have to say.

Gravatar I take the same route home as Sara does, and I actually enjoy the occasional two hour commutes. It gives me plenty of time to practice my excuses.

Gravatar I've wanted to cry too, because being stuck in traffic in L.A. when you have to pee is like the worst kind of hell.

Gravatar From what I've seen, it looks like a combination of weather-related lane closures (due to lots of new potholes and broken water mains), and massive backups at freeway on-ramps spilling back onto the streets. Add in the compulsive lane-switchers, and things get oh-so-fun.

I was heading west, while it sounds like you were going east, so there could be other factors adding to the fun in your direction.

I'm hoping the fact that the roads are usually a bit emptier on Fridays will make things less rage-inducing tonight...good luck!

Gravatar Yes, I was on Sunset! Do you know why it's so bad?

Gravatar Were you going down Sunset, by any chance? It's been so horrific for three straight nights that I'm pondering getting trashed at a bar and taking a cab home tonight, rather than suffering through it again.

Or maybe I'll look into that Gadget-legs thing.

Gravatar Oh my god, that traffic sounds horrendous. And your reactions are exactly like mine. People try to cut me off in traffic and I start screaming (usually on the inside), because NO, you can get the hell BEHIND me, because I just let the OTHER guy in front of me ten minutes ago. And invariably, the guy I let in is so grateful to be allowed in, that he lets someone ELSE in. It's a cycle.

Hope it gets better.

I'm 23, and I call my mom when I'm really upset about stuff and can't get to my friends to bitch at them.
