Me again... dropping in for a random visit as usual. It occurred to me that while I had visited and seen stuff about Slouching Towards Bedlam here, I had never actually played it. So... then I thought, "what better way to celebrate Star's life for those of us who did not know her other than from her writing... than to engage in playing the game for which she became 'award winning game author, Star Foster'? So I followed some links...

here: http://peccable.com/joomla/index...id=14& Itemid=27 to download the game itself.

and here:
http://ccxvii.net/gargoyle/

to download the player needed to play the game.

I came to this conclusion rather late last night (the kind of late where if I said how late, you'd be forced to say "what the hell were you doing up that late?" to which I would have no really good reply except that I was up that late only because I hadn't gone to sleep yet. Anyway, so I downloaded both... opened it up.. and was instantly transported. I remembered playing Zork I and II and Planetfall and other IF type games way back in the day... But I also was transported to this room that is described at the beginning of Slouching Towards Bedlam (which I shall henceforth call STB because all the cool games have cool acronyms)

I haven't played MUCH of it yet, but I am going to try to complete it. But here's my idea and why I write. Perhaps, it would be fun.. to have a game date with everyone who reads this site? Some weekend day perhaps where we shall all load up STB (rock!) and just enjoy what she enjoyed. Perhaps during the day, we could post our progress here in comments. Maybe some thoughts about the game. Whatever. What do you all think? What about a date?

Re: "Armageddon It". Def Leppard, of course. Now where'd I put my acid-washed denim jacket...?

An STB day sounds cool. I'm wondering... would any of the settings in the game translate into a 3-D space? My Second Life avatar lives in a steampunk city called New Babbage -- maybe there's room for a little Bedlam there?

Thank you Mark, for Amageddon it. FOr the STB portion of your comment, I have no idea what you are talking about. However, the cool kids do. I am hoping we can get it going. I'll get back to you.

I don't think so, Mark. It's strictly a text game. I'm not sure if perhaps one of us knew a brilliant coder in SL, they could somehow make an STB kiosk or something in SL... how weird would it be to play a text game in a virtual 3D world? I think the universe may implode.

I wonder how many people who read this site also play SL? I am Billy Laffer there. Say hi sometime!

Great idea to have a STB day. I playtested it, but haven't gone back to it since as text games normally frustrate me to infernal degrees. Nothing against Slouching, mind you, it's the genre in general.

Plus, I accidentally reached the end of the game in about 10 minutes when I tried being a smartass: part of playtesting is finding bugs, and I was trying to find bugs, but instead I reached the end of the game.

Oops.

Reaching the end of the game is an awesome bug!
