Science Musings Discussion

I haven't read the Sources of the Self, and Mr Taylor may have insightful ideas regarding the making of our modern identity. On the other hand the mantra of only, only, only in your brief essay smacks of the kind of certaintity that is a hallmark of clericalism, not science. In medicine, in culture, in philosophy (in shoes!) one size does not fit all. Variation is not only the norm, it is necessary for survival.

I don't view Taylor's ideas as support for "one size fits all," as Dave Gregoire does. I don't see Taylor as claiming that "one worldview is the only answer." Rather, I interpret his comment as an assertion (with which I agree) that a worldview allowing for spooky entities -- angels, for example -- is incompatible with our achieving a sound, equitable, global society.
