I'm not sure which I find more shocking: that only 38% of black players graduate from Michigan, or that that's not even the worst in the Big 1?. That is effing atrocious.
And the quantitative reasoning stuff? Wow. Just . . . wow.

I find it pretty disturbing that manboobs and mike hart responded to Harbaugh with as much vitriol as they did. They basically disowned him because he said that their players were being encouraged to pick bullshit majors.
General studies is crap, and having it as a major means that essentially you never progress beyond possessing a cursory knowledge of any one subject. Is this the goal of higher education?

Sean-
I thought the exact same thing when I read that about the 300 level courses. Nice BS ploy by the UM administration.
That's like saying "12 hours of every day are required to be PM (or post meridiem). Without this, people would be unable to determine when something was to occur during the day."

Here is one for ya. If the Michigan football players had to retake the SAT after leaving the football program, would they score higher or lower?

"race and ethnicity requirements" sounded a bit ominous to me. Like "we have to have African Americans get 14% of the A's in this class; sorry, Bernard Finklestein, you did better coursework, but you get a B."

I realize this is a week late, but University of Michigan Flint, and for that matter University of Michigan Dearborn are wholly different schools than the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor).
It is not a satellite campus.

They are all part of the same University system. They are all run by the same people. They all receive the same funding.
I don't know what the terminology is in the Michigan public school system, but UM - Ann Arbor is the main one. For brevity's sake, "satellite" will suffice for the others in my article.

@ Nate
The "race and ethnicity" requirement has nothing to with grading in classes. I have no idea where you got that from.
The requirement means that students must take a certain amount of classes in which the course material deals with aspects of race and ethnicity. For example, many history and anthropology courses fill this requirement.
Again, the requirement has nothing to do with the race or ethnicity of the student.
