Nicely played considering this week's news. Why not just throw Virginia Tech and Daniel Pearl's widow in there too?

First, I hardly see the connection between a failed car bomb scare and the horrible events that took place at Virginia Tech. In fact, I would call it grossly insensitive to compare the two.
Second, are you saying that if anything bad happens (or almost happens) anywhere in a country, that country is completely off limits for light-hearted jokes? Man, lighten up.

Brendan - Don't worry, economics will make it necessary for Northern Ireland to join the Republic in about fifty years. Ian Paisley might not be around by then (maybe).

Not that anyone looks to college football fan blogs for thoughtfulness or sensitivity, but this might be the frontrunner for Worst Post Ever.
Leave aside the dubious wisdom in the concept of "Asshat of the Week." Why would you ever award that title to England? And why would you confuse England with the United Kingdom, embarassing yourself and everyone else who purports to be college-educated?
What, no college football player earned his umpteenth DUI this week? Myles Brand didn't attack another un-PC mascot? In short, was there nothing football-related to comment upon?
Perhaps you think that this is somehow appropriate for the Fourth of July. Then you need only read Jefferson's own thoughts for the day, quoted in the post, to see exactly what kind of attitude our separation from the Mother Country calls for.
This would've been a bonehead move any week of the year. But it's even worse coming on the heels of three would-be terror attacks. These serve as a chilling reminder that our old enemy has, for almost a hundred years, been our ally against tyranny in all forms.
Imagine if someone rammed a four-wheel-drive Molotov Cocktail into the arrivals gate at O'Hare right before Guy Fawkes Day, and some jackass at www.hooliganblog.com took the opportunity to name Our Lady's University Wanker of the Week.
There isn't much reason to read college football blogs in July. We all just got one more reason to avoid them altogether. Peace.

Thanks to El Dorado Casserole for a truly moving and important piece. Never again will we make fun of anything or anyone at the risk of offending someone who posts a political piece on a football blog using a mexican food alias. However, please try to choose the name you post with a little more carefully. My great aunt from Moscow hates el dorado casserole, and I don't think it's very sensitive to post that on this blog. If she checks Kelly Green and sees that, she is going to be heartbroken. How would you like it if www.12thcenturyrussianpottery.com named el dorado casserole Shit Dish of the Week?

El Dorado, you obviously can't take a joke. The sarcasm of the post was obvious from the fact that we made the ass hat AN ENTIRE COUNTRY, rather than a person.
Oh and since you brought it up, I'm completely aware of the difference between the United Kingdom and England, but apparently you aren't. The map in the asshat photo is actually Great Britain. Omitting Wales and Scotland from the map would have made it look clumsy and perhaps unrecognizable to some. The United Kingdom is a political, not geographical, unit and also includes Northern Ireland.
So go back to reading Burke, you redcoat!

What the hell would a terrorist plot at an airport in Chicago, Illinois have to do with a small college in Northern Indiana? If there's an explosion at O'Hare, no one in England is allowed to make fun of Notre Dame? Are you high?

Just so you lot know, no-one in England gives a shit whether Northern Ireland is part of the UK or not. Its the people there who don't seem to want to be part of Ireland. I wish they'd piss off and stop leaching our taxes. Come to think of it Scotland and Wales can fuck off as well.

Bloke makes a good point. Although I come from strong Irish Republican roots, I know that the average English person knows little or nothing about the situation in the North of Ireland. Inasmuch as that is true, I certainly wouldn't consider myself "anti-English." Indeed, it is only Protestant Loyalists in the North who have any desire to maintain the Union with GB. The British government, however, has much to answer for in its treatment of the Irish over the past several hundred years. At any rate, things are much better (politically, economically, socially) in the North than they seemingly have ever been. Let's hope the peace continues!

Wow, almost as dumb as a post taking itself too seriously for political reasons: a post saying that, because of one joke in the offseason that you don't find funny, this blog suck from here on out.
For Sean and anyone else that doesn't know what "Jump the Shark" means, it's a really crappy moment or episode of a TV series that heralds a huge decline in its quality. The term comes from an episode of Happy Days when Fonzie jumped a shark tank on his motorcycle.
