Nunya, you obviously don't know the definition of a "fair weather fan." Either that or you were just to intellectually lazy to think your comment through...
A fair weather fan stops caring about a team when they do poorly, and instead pay attention to other things. A real and dedicated fan gets seriously pissed when his team his performing poorly, and he criticizes those responsible.
I say amen to all the points Sean made there--minus the one about Sam Young. He IS terrible, but he still is a hulk of man who could probably break me into 2 pieces.

I agree with most of the comments and Zibby may be a cool guy but he's an awfull football player. If Weis wasn't loyal to his seniors Zibby would be picking splinters. He hasn't laid anybody out since his sophomore year. Of all the players he's regressed the most...good riddance!!!!

Not sure how I missed the venom before (I've always read KG only sporadically) but I'll be dropping this page from now on. These are college kids, and they don't deserve this sort of abuse.

I think you're pretty much spot on in your analysis. It was a shitty season capped off by a shitty game against a slighty more shitty team.

you forgot to mention Trevor Laws in your rant - that team was medicore to the core but Laws was a ray of sunshine to watch. GO ND - beat the spread.

I enjoyed this immensely. Kudos to your assessment of Asaph Schwapp. That guy doesn't deserve to come within 10 yards of the football, much less carry it. Maybe he's a heck of a blocker, but certainly not a good ball carrier....or even average ball carrier. Hopefully he's a Senior and this is it for him. If not, Charlie needs his head examined if he ever calls that guy's number for a running play again.

Zibby's never been the same since that Purdue player cracked him with the illegal helmet-to-helmet hit. Good ole Quaker oats, telling his players to go out and take down all of our players. Asshat. I blame Purdue for all Zibby's problems.
Don't forget the suspect personal foul on Laws that kept us from scoring at the end of the half. And the strange "no time play" that followed after reviewing to see if any of the laterals were forward. What a godawful referee crew.

Schwapp was an absolutely terrible blocker.

Regarding Weis' continuing support of Schwapp, I feel like Weis has a syndrome that a lot of coaches get in which a player kicks ass in practice but just doesn't produce on the field.
With the stable of running backs we had this year (Armando, Hughes, Aldrige) it was absolutely unacceptable that Travis Thomas or Schwapp saw ANY ANY ANY time on the field after the first two or three games this year. Haywood has a big say in who goes in at RB, by the way, and so deserves some of the blame.
How many times did Weis put in Thomas when we were 3 yards out so that he could run through a hole and score. It isn't because Thomas was a goal line back--any of the other 3 would've scored...I'd personally be furious if I were the other 3 and my TD is taken away so Weis can feel better about ruining Thomas' career.
Some positives:
It was an ugly game, but it was a win. We needed a win.
Trevor Laws is awesome. I want him on the Bears.
I think this team will be absolutely nasty with the incoming class and the potential this years' underclassmen showed. I DON'T necessarily think it's terrible for Weis to go to New England (for what, a week?) in the off season because I don't think they're just going to talk schematics and do think Weis will listen to whatever these guys will have to say, which I bet will be brutally honest.
Seems to me like Polian and Latina are toast, which can only be a good thing.

I wouldn't say that Weis ruined Thomas' career. I'd say Travis did that to himself.

Yeah, I fail to see how Weis ruined Thomas' career. Weis gave him an opportunity to start on defense instead of riding the bench in 2006. Weis made him special teams captain despite constant flagrant personal fouls. Weis always gave him the ball in the red zone after more talented backs got us there in the first place. If anything, Weis showed him gross favoritism that he didn't deserve.

The point is that Weis felt he ruined his career by moving him to linebacker when he shouldn't have. Hence the favoritism in my opinion--an "I owe this guy" mentality.

I'm of the opinion that moving TT to linebacker was a great opportunity for him. He wasn't going to get to the NFL sitting on the bench all season as backup tailback. At least he got to be on the field and have a chance to prove himself. What ruined his career was the fact that he is bad at football, and Weis has to know that.

Maybe he'll make it as a special teams ace in the NFL. At best he was a very average RB. The good thing is that he's gotten his degree. If football isn't in his immediate future, he still has options outside of football.

A special teams ace?! The only thing he's good for on special teams is an unbelievable amount of personal fouls. The only way he has a future in the NFL is if some team needs a guy to go in and jab his fingers in an opponent's throat after the play. Oakland perhaps?

Agree with a lot on the year end review but should keep in mind the motto of SMQ ("Second-guessing the split-second decisions of college kids under extreme physical duress ..."). The coaches- not so much. Keep the faith!
