Gravatar Think about it...would you rather live in a suburb of Detroit, and put up with cold weather, dingy, gray skies, and work in a stadium that has a total of 200,000 eyes and sixteen teeth, or live in a swamp in Louisiana? Actually, niether is that palatable, but as for me, I'd rather take the latter than the former. Plus, don't get me started on those hideous striped helmets......

Gravatar Perhaps it's my advancing age, or my subconscious trying to get me to stop spending so much time on ND football-related websites, but I'm not able to tell whether you're being straightforward or engaging a healthy though very subtle sarcasm. My first and most vehement reaction to the Miles situation last Saturday am, was directed at Herbstreit. I'm not particularly a fan of either LSU or Miles (though I hope they kick tosu butt up and down the field), but there was no reason for Herbsh*t to come out that very morning with that "report." And the presser Miles called was absolutely necessary, if for no other reason than to reassure his team just before the SEC Championship game that he was fully engaged with their efforts/goals. What Herbf*** did was damaging to the players and that school and its program, and it was all for nothing other than his "scoop." Didn't Herbbu** play college ball? Wouldn't you expect someone in that field with that background to give some thought to how his words effect the subjects he's writing about? My second reaction was a sense that the "report" and the response needed, pretty much tied his hands as to how Miles would end up handling the whole issue of coaching at Michigan. What can he do now, but stay at LSU?...... Unless he really doesn't care about looking like an out-and-out liar, if he were to subsequently decide to take the job, even after the BCS Championship game.
As an aside, did Herb*ss play at tofu...excuse me, tosu? Even if so, that couldn't be related to the timing of that report, could it? Of course not, because this is journalism we're talking about, and the ethics are unassailable, right? Right, thought so........

Gravatar Bullshit. Miles could have insulated his team from ESPN the morning before a conference championship game. He could have made the press conference quick, saying "Michigan has not even contacted me regarding their head coaching job. I am the head coach of LSU and I have a conference championship to win." Boom. He takes care of business without lying.

I think people are also overrating how drastic an affect the announcement would have on LSU. Somehow Urbie was able to win his bowl game at Utah after the CLUSTERFUCK with Notre Dame and Florida. Was Miles' team REALLY going to lose that much motivation because their coach MIGHT go to another team NEXT YEAR!?

Michigan is the one who really fucked up in this situation. LSU didn't pull that extension out of their ass on saturday--they knew about Michigan's interest and put a very lucrative deal on the table that expired Saturday. Michigan, certain that Miles would want to come there, planned to contact him (FOR THE FIRST FUCKING TIME!!) after the conference championship. There was no reason they couldn't have contacted his agent before that. Meanwhile, people in the coaching search at UMich have a contract drawn up for him and reveal to Herbie that it should be a done deal. I think if the sources are good enough, you should run a story like that. It sucks that Herbie put Les in a tough situation, but I honestly don't think he did his job with any level of neglect.
