Gravatar I don't feel any of that kind of pressure to obey masculine norms you describe men as typically feeling, but I think that may be a reflection of a certain type of privilege I possess. My appearance, demeanor, carriage, voice, and manner of speaking are sterotypically masculine. I also travel in social and professional circles where the kind of self-destructive masculinity you describe is not at all prevalent. So when I openly enjoy the kinds of things you describe as being so lovely, there is no pressure not to.

[Maybe it's me, but I can't imagine you gazing at a rainbow. Describing it in scientific terms or saying "fuck" at it, maybe. But yes, very good point about privilege and security. -SL]

Gravatar Thanks, SL! In addition to what you've said here (which I totally agree with), I was also thinking about the historical devaluing/rejection of the feminine and ornament in modern culture. Eg. avant garde art or--to quote you--"I'm edgy and cool zzzz my penis zzzz zzzz."

Congrats on your new tattoo, which is itself an embrace of beauty!

Gravatar Comrade PhysioProf *loves* rainbows and unicorns and flowers and stuff! BTW, it is amusing me that as I type this, my current post listed in your blogroll is "I WANT TO KILL ACROBAT 9.1!!!!!"

HAHAHAHAH!
