Gravatar There is a button that a lot of the therapists have started wearing at the Radiation Oncology department where I work. It says "Cancer sucks." Pretty much sums it up, I guess. But what makes going to work every day worthwhile is that there ARE so many survivors. It's not just that we are making significant improvements in our ability to treat various cancers; we're treating people who aren't willing just to curl into a ball and give up on life. So many patients, their families, and their friends are able to come back from that initial blow of a cancer diagnosis -- because you're right, it affects everyone, not just the individual -- and make the decision not to take a single moment for granted, no matter what the outcome of their treatment may be. We let go of the inconsequential petty things that used to worry us, and we choose instead to count our many, many blessings. May you and your family continue to draw strength from your love for each other, and may you always see your blessings as clearly as you do now.
