Nothing but Paspalum Fasciculatum here

Bush's choice depicts the sad reality of how the abortion debate has completely destroyed our Supreme Court nomination process. This single issue drives the nomination process like no other, and it's a deal-breaker for most candidates. Again, it highlights the gridlock of America politics. Senators dare not defy their states' pro or anti choice special interest groups or face their wrath at the polls. So, a decision that should be voted on by the legislature is punted to unelected judges, and the only political price to be paid comes around at nomination time.
Bush is faced with plummeting approval rating, Katrina cleanup, Iraq, and a stalling economy. He simply doesn't have the capital to nominate a controversial candidate. However, he could have picked someone that wasn't so close to the White House. It does look bad, and it smacks of privilege and access. Bush hasn't seemed to do anything right this year in terms of decisions, with th exception of N. Korea. This is one more example of a weakening President.
