Nothing but Paspalum Fasciculatum here

Today's New York Times has an article on the Venezuelan election. I still think it was pretty dumb to let Chavez have 89% of the seats in parliament.

Gravatar Well Ivan they have done whatever they want (legal or illegal) with 54%? anyway, with the CNE tricks (like the 'morochas') they where expected to get 66%+ so what difference does it make?.

Oh, and it's not 89%, it's 100% the other candidates that won are just not of Chavez's party but they are Chavistas anyway.

Gravatar Edgar, I love your strategy here: let Chavez win so that we (the opposition that supports US policies) can continue to loose.

You really must be an 'academic'--because where I am from, the Bronx, they would call me an utter dumbass.

Really, don't you people ever figure out that it is your slavish devotion to the criminal Latin American elite that have put so many people into miserable poverty?

This type of dogma will continue to see the Venezuelan opposition boarding rafts for the United States soon--the only country stupid enough to take you people.

Gravatar I think that you missed the point, the opposition did not let Chávez win, the CNE would have assured Chávez victory no matter what. The Opposition parties and the Venezuelan opposition did the best non-violent thing they could have done under such circumstances (pretty s**ty deck of cards, let me tell you).

With this outcome, Chávez has a more limited set of moves than if the Opposition would have remained in the election.

Now, about the Venezuelan apathy to get organized and really do something that would overturn the government, that's another story.
