Edgar: if this was an interview conducted by Mexican authorities, you would have seen it reported anywhere. Alas, Bush is indeed no diferent than Kichner, as his stance on not putting our toy dictator where he should be (or telling him "cuatro verdades") is really helping el Supremo with his antimperialism tyrade (imagine if Ronald Reagan was the current president of the US, then you would have seen some fireworks!). No wonder some americans are pissed off with the desitions Bush is taking.

I don't agree on that Tito, I believe that Bush's current attitude is the right one, he is not descending to Chavez's level. His personnel is the one telling Chávez "cuatro verdades," the U.S. ambassador to Venezuela is the the one that has been very politely mocking most of what Chávez says nowadays, and that is priceless.
Because of the way most of the world (and a large portion of the U.S.) sees Bush, it is better this way, anything that Bush says would just add more fuel to the fire, by ignoring him he lets people see who Chavez really is.
International pressure has to build up to "grease" the process, but in the end the change has to be carried out by Venezuelans, no one else can do that job for us.
That is my current opinion, and I could definitively be wrong, but I don't see a better way.

More and more news commentators have been using the "d" (dicatator) word of late when referring to Chávez. He still is popular, particularly in Mass and NY because of Delahunt and our friend Jesse (Jackson, that is), but the press doesn't seem to be as amenable to Chávez as they have been in the past.

Edgar,
Did you see Chavez remarks about int'l observers? It's hilarious. According to Chavez, the OAS is now a right-wing organization.

Yup Brook, I've seen it, Miguel, Quico, and Daniel have made a good point out of them. But I am observing more of the media reaction to it thinking of a post about it, and so far it is pathetic. A headline that irked me (apparently the best light they could give to his outburst): "Chavez Rejects Criticism of Media Use"
I agree YGBK, a good thing about this last election is that now any news article that mentions Chavez's and his multiple elections includes the footnote: "the opposition pulled out, only 25% participated (20% according to the opposition) and the previous legislative election had a participation of 55%." That has to give more reporters pause, and the dictator tag is starting to stick. Also the BBC coverage seems to be turning around, finally.

Edgar, you are an imperialist stoodge and a fake who is not the least bit interested in authentic democracy. Your major concern is that the socially excluded majority threaten your illegitimate priviledges and power.
Any nation with as many exploited and socially excluded as Venezuela is ripe for some form of revolution. The policies of the imperial power and its elite Latin American deathsquad lackies are being questioned and overturned.
Elites like Edgar (safely ensconced in a US university and keeping silent about the crimes in Iraq) don't have any answers toward solving the huge problems of the world because it is his elitism and oppressive practices that ARE the problem.
Don't hold your breath that Edgar would ever really Fight in Iraq or for the oligarchy in Venezuela--like so many rightists, he doesn't have the courage of his convictions.

Fairy S.--what is your point?
Edgar, why are you not posting information on the situation in Venezuela. If others have the kindness to link to your blog, you should have the willingness to keep this blog updated.
Or is the Chavez-is-satan screed becoming boring?
Venezuelans are spoiled, too used to living on the largess of fickle patrons.

Yeah Eduardo,
I wish I had the inspiration to keep going at it everyday, but sometimes the whole thing can be really depressing. I got involved in several Venezuelan issues and the attitude just depressed me even more to the point of just wanting to forget it all. Blogging can get to vice proportions and I tend to overcompensate on my vices.
I know, there are really no excuses for at least not posting a 'see you later' post, in respect for my readers, but what can I say?, sometimes you just don't want to admit your shortcomings.
Blogging after all is a hobby, a serious one at that, and many bloggers are religious about it (and I am thankful for that), but it is a hobby nonetheless. But sometimes you have to get away from it all. Many of my Venezuelan family and friends have done exactly that (specially those in Venezuela), they just stay away from any kind of news because their doctors have asked them to. Having your country destroyed can be really dangerous to your health.
