I am sad to hear of you having to relocate your mother, and being displaced from your home. I know that it isn't easy.
I have had credit problems myself, although not on the scale of suffering foreclosure. When searching for an apartment, I actually offered to pay the deposit plus first months rent up front. Have you tried that avenue? Or if possible, offer the deposit plus 2 months rent upfront. Some leasing managers take that as a good faith effort. Thus giving you a month at least to get on your feet.
I wish that I could help other than giving you some ideas. Unfortunately, I am in a financial bind at present.
I hope the best for you and hope that you will find the type of housing that you need.
Sincerely,
Odessa Branch

Thanks Michelle. I'll be posting sporadically as I think I finally found someplace and will be moving (hopefully).
Odessa, yes I've offered the full six months up front - money order or certified check and in cases of management-run apartments, have been told that my bad credit trumps actual cash b/c of fair housing law restrictions that won't let management treat my case any differently than other applicants. In other words, they can't take my money and a foreclosure on my credit report gets me disqualified. That has been the source of my frustration; I feel that in these hard economic times, exceptions should be made to curtail homelessness - not just for me, but for those others who can offer savings to find an apartment even though they would not pass a credit check.
I also discovered that a bad credit rating will prevent job applicants from being considered for certain jobs. I had no idea just how much a bad credit rating can curtail one's life.

Hi,
Im sorry to hear that you are having hard times. I've had my share as well and completely understnad how frustrating it can be. Have you tred private owners? They tend to be more understanding and with the economy as it is right now, they tend to jump more at the opportunities than management companies do because they dont have that much "disposable" income at hand. Good luck with your search!

Sharon, I am so sorry that you were unable to raise the money that you needed to stop the foreclosure. With all the so called programs that are out there there should be some program that can help you. I can understand that you must be so angry especially after reading about the banks and how they lied etc...I know that it pisses me off what they have done to countless of individuals. Good luck with the apartment hunting and I will continue to pray for you and your family. Glad that you were able to get your mother into a senior living facility. Thank God for that at least. Hang in there I will pray that you find housing for yourself soon. Take Care and God Bless.

Some good news, I hope. They've pushed back the sheriff's sale to May (since my home is a Fannie Mae mortgage, it is following Obama's direction to keep homeowners in their homes as long as possible). Although I can't afford to remain, a friend of a friend owns a building and I may finally have found a place to move to and he's not put off by my bad credit. So I've got my fingers x'd that I will FINALLY be moving in the next few weeks.)
